epc Lisburn
Lisburn is the third largest city in Northern Ireland, situated on the banks of the River Lagan. It is also Northern Ireland’s youngest city, having been granted city status in 2002 to celebrate the Queen’s Golden Jubilee.
Lisburn’s History
Lisburn has a long and storied history the City’s original site was located on what is now known as Hill Street, on a hill above the River. There was once a fort located at the north side of what is now known as Wallace Park. During the 1620s the streets of Lisburn were laid out as they remain today. A Manor House was built on the site of what is now Castle Gardens and in 1623 a church was consecrated on the site of the modern Cathedral. The Manor House was destroyed in the accidental fire of 1707 and was never rebuilt. Nearby Hillsborough Castle, a well preserved 18th Century Manor House, is conveniently located to provide a historical landmark.
Local Culture
Lisburn also boast a local theatre, Fusion, built on the philosophy of being inclusive to all. For those with a more musical bent there is the Drumlough Pipe band, founded in 1950, which recently won both the All Ireland and British Championships. The City’s LeisurePlex is the largest of its kind in the whole of Northern Ireland and is a fantastic place for the local community to relax.
Museums and Activities
Lisburn was for many years a great centre for the linen trade and to honour that heritage there is the Irish Linen Centre based in Lisburn’s 17th Century Market House in the centre of the City. It brings to life the history of linen and its importance to Lisburn. Visitors can see the heritage of craft skills in the daily demonstrations of the hand-spinning and hand loom-weaving and admire the treasured collection of damask linen and costumes. There is also Brookhall historical farm, a farm museum with exhibiting items from a bygone age. Visitors can stroll around the farm where they can see farm animals, some rare breeds, lovely gardens, nature walks, a fishing lake and a historic 12th Century Church. You can also pay a visit to the lovely Country Farm Tea Room and enjoy trout fishing all year round on the Brookhall Estate.
The Eco-Village
Lisburn is also the proud host of Northern Ireland’s first eco-village. Woodbrook, an eco-housing development in Brokerstown Village developed by a local development company, offers home owners an environmentally-friendly alternative to the modern home. The innovative homes, which feature the latest high-tech energy-conserving features, are heated by special wood chips which fuel the biomass heating system, making them the most cost effective new homes to run in the province.
Energy Performance Certificates
Government regulations introduced in July 2008 say that any property for sale or to let in Lisburn and Northern Ireland will require an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC). The EPC shows potential buyers or tenants the energy rating of a property, the annual fuel costs and a list of recommended improvements that save energy costs and reduce CO2 emissions. Epc4less Ltd provides EPCs in Lisburn and is an established supplier of EPCs for homeowners and landlords accross Northern Ireland. Their current offers can be found at www.epc4less.com
